Please! No more tables!

Another table? Yep.
This one was for FREE though and I didn't even have to move it...because the previous owners left it (and 4 adorable chairs...more about that later).

See that streak? I don't know what it is, but that streak will haunt me (continue reading)
I don't know why this picture is sideways, but look at those pretty legs!
So sanded it down well (or so I thought)...
...and primed...wait, what? that "streak" is now BRIGHT red.
 and the sides

I'm stubborn so I wasted time painting with ANOTHER coat of primer...
 Still red. Ugh.

So I tried sanding it down really hard and it took forever just to get a 2"x2" part sanded well enough and I decided it wasn't worth it.

PLAN B: Buy MDF and 1x4" to make a new table top.
This was my first time using a circular saw...it was kind of terrifying. So I made a frame and gorilla glued it on (after sanding first, of course)
Primed and painted it white (using Valspar Latex Enamel in Gloss White) and I reattached the original pieces of wood the legs screwed into.
Voila! (Ignore the random towel, flip flops, and lunch box in my floor)
Isn't she pretty? I can't wait until the chairs are done!
Dang it! When did that happen?

Here's a little preview of what the chairs looked like BEFORE.

  5. Ha!
    I love it!
I have a Duncan Phyfe table like this, too!
The top of my table needs work just like yours. I dunno what I will find when I start sanding, but you inspired me to paint the whole thing white!!
I paid $75 for my table at a yard sale (this was before Craigslist existed). Free is better, but I came close, doncha think? ;)
SO, I am so glad I saw your link at Miss Mustard Seed's place, so I can be brave and paint my table, too. And if the top is yucky, I now know how to make one of those!
    You are clever!
    Thank you!

  6. Hi Leslie! I had no idea what this table was called - thanks!! Keep my updated on how it goes! I absolutely LOVE mine painted white. I'm actually taking a break from painting the chairs right now (those spray paint fumes are making my head spin!) I can't wait until it's all done!!

    Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Free!!! Lucky Duck! Great idea for the new top. Was your primer oil-based? Just wondering, as I have something to cover too, and thought oil-based might work.

  9. Awesome! You are pretty handy with the power tools! I'm sure you can fix the corner! I hate discovering stuff like that after I'm totally DONE with something. :)
